Charlotte Storey is an expert in communication leadership.
As former Heads of Voice and Acting in leading UK conservatoires, she shares her experience of developing elite ensembles and A-List individuals by interrogating the dynamic listening skills required to garner extraordinary results, and unpicking what excellence looks like in the form of magnetic communication.
Inverting populist leadership theory, Storey explores the relationship between the ego and the soul persona, pointing up the importance of surrender, communion with an audience, and self-nurture as the essential ingredients of extraordinary teams and their leaders. Storey applies methodologies gleaned from working with elite ensembles and A-List celebrities to amplify the need for compassionate self-leadership, and for releasing the creativity within teams.
Unique in her approach to mastering her own disability sufficiently to pilot an aircraft, an impressive list of organisations has worked with Charlotte Storey to gain her insights into human performance and the benefits of audacious self-leadership, these include HM Royal Marines Band, Lockheed Martin, European Business Aviation Association, BBC, Disney, Nickelodeon, The Bank of England, Natwest Bank, Warburtons, and Homebase.
As a disabled woman, Storey is able to advise and guide both small, high-performance teams, in addition to addressing the challenges faced by larger, more diverse organisations around the advantages of actively recruiting a diverse workforce, of the unique potential women leaders bring to previously male-dominated spaces, self-mastery and proactivity, transformational leadership as an antidote to transactional management, the importance of self-nurture and the benefits of enshrining time within the working day for reflection and retreat, and resilience in adversity; strategies for conquering fear-based reactive behaviours.
Charlotte Storey embodies the successful outcomes of implementing these strategies learnt from overcoming the ‘catastrophe’ of her own disability.
Storey is currently working on a book about conquering adversity to reach the heights entitled, Not the Whole Storey, in which the author gives a highly humorous account of the self-mastery techniques she developed in response to her own complex genetic illness; techniques that took her from long-term in-patient to London’s West End stage, from losing the use of her right arm, to becoming pilot in command of her own light aircraft. In this book, Storey addresses the physical and psychological challenges that leaders face when integrating change, highlighting the need to both problem-solve using flow and bloom techniques, and to know that the best kind of self-leadership is when you discover something cannot be achieved and having the courage to communicate to the team the need for a fresh direction.
Storey regularly advises elite clients on forming and empowering teams, realigning culture to accommodate a renewed awareness about the humility and integrity required to counter silent quitting and to promote a healthy mindset. She advises on how to build an elite team and cultivate synchronicity through her insights into non-verbal, sensing without seeing communication skills.
In addition to keynotes and motivational talks, Charlotte Storey also provides a consultation service for high-performance individuals seeking to amplify gravitas. In these one-to-one sessions, Storey imparts skills refined in elite acting environments to give clients complete self-mastery over mindset, physicality, and voice.
Storey also runs Leader Empowerment, an online video course for time-pressed executives seeking to better understand their team dynamics and to maximise their personal impact through a mastery of verbal and non-verbal exchanges, physical presence, performance anxiety mastery, and vocal fluidity.
Storey is the driving force behind senior executives returning to the workforce better able to lead and inspire, knowledgeable about how to tease out the dormant potential within the team, more adept at embedding the skills for continued resilience, improved team cohesion, and collective mission.
